Thursday April 7th

1.45pm The SSS Super Alloys Manifesto Novices’ Steeple Chase  Grade 1 2m 4f
7 go to post here.  NO SELECTION
Lets see what the weather does next week as we know Bravemansgame wont run on soft ground also entered in the 3 miler.
Bravemansgame, a late withdrawal at Cheltenham due to the rain-softened ground, heads 12 entries for the SSS Super Alloys Manifesto Novices’ Chase. He is unbeaten in four starts over fences and is one of two possibles from the Nicholls yard along with Pic D’orhy. Henry de Bromhead’s Gin On Lime – a remarkable winner of a two-horse race at Cheltenham in November – is the sole Irish entry while Colin Tizzard has three – Elixir De Nutz, The Widow Maker and War Lord.

2.20pm The Anniversary 4-y-o Juvenile Hurdle  Grade 1   2m1f   SELECTION PIED PIPER
9 go to post. This is a match between Brazil and Pied Piper.  This can go to the Gordon Elliott trained Pied Piper.
15 declared at the 5 day stage.
Pied Piper
could run in this. Iceo and Brazil entered.

2.55pm The Betway Bowl Steeple Chase  Grade 1   3m 1f  SELECTION CONFLATED
9 go to post here.
Conflated can make amends for falling behind Allaho at Cheltenham where he would have finished 2nd. This trip and track will suit and the 4/1 looks good value.
Clan Des Obeaux will face a maximum of 10 rivals should he bid for back-to-back victories in the Betway Bowl
The Paul Nicholls-trained dual King George VI Chase winner bypassed Cheltenham to wait for this and he could renew rivalry with Kemboy, who was successful in 2019 for Willie Mullins. Dan Skelton’s Protektorat and Royal Pagaille, from Venetia Williams’ stable, were third and fifth respectively in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Irish Gold Cup hero Conflated (Elliott) was a faller in the Ryanair Chase, while Nigel Twiston-Davies’ popular grey Bristol De Mai is another contender. Eldorado Allen, Itchy Feet, Fakir D’oudairies, Nuts Well and Paint The Dream add further strength in depth.
Conflated, Clan Des Obeaux  and Fakir Doudaries entered among 11 declared. Bristol De Mai will head to Aintree for the Grade One Betway Bowl at the Grand National meeting, providing he gets his favoured ground a bog. Conflated will be aimed at this.

3.30pm The Betway Aintree Hurdle (Grade 1) 2m 4f    SELECTION      EPATANTE
7 go to post. Epatante look good here and can show his class over Zanahiyr.
Epatante could step up to two and a half miles for this. The eight-year-old mare was runner-up to Honeysuckle in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham last month, having taken the prize in 2020. Trainer Nicky Henderson also has Buveur D’Air, a dual Champion Hurdle winner and victorious in this race in 2017. Gordon Elliott’s Zanahiyr, third in this season’s Champion Hurdle, also has yet to tackle this distance, while last year’s Triumph Hurdle first and second, Quilixios and Adagio, are among the 10 entries completed by Brewin’upastorm, Glory And Fortune, Guard Your Dreams, McFabulous and Monmiral.

4.05pm The Randox Foxhunters’ Open Hunters’ Steeple Chase 2m 5f    NO SELECTION
43 entered. Winged Leader was unlucky to be collared near the line at Cheltenham and can gain compensation here if non the worse for his gallant run. Paddy Power are offering 7/2 which looks good value. Bob And Co fell halfway in the Foxhunters. Gordon Elliott is sending  Mighty Stowaway  here.

4.40pm The Close Brothers Red Rum Handicap Ch Grade 3    2m SELECTION    BEFORE MIDNIGHT
18 go to post.  Before Midnight was pulled out of Cheltenham and can gain compensation here.
31 declared at the 5 day stage.

5.15pm The Goffs UK Nickel Coin Mares’ Standard Open NH Flat (Grade 2) 2m 1f  NO SELECTION
27 declared at the 5 day stage.

Friday April 8th

1.45pm The Orrell Park Handicap Hurdle (Class 1) Grade 3  2m 4f
56 entered at the 5 day stage.
Colonel Mustard could stay out of graded company again and go for the Orrell Park Handicap Hurdle over two and a half miles on Merseyside.

2.20pm The Betway Top Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1)  2m   SELECTION JONBON
I think Jonbon will be kept at 2 miles and this looks the easier for him.
24 entered.  Jonbon features among 24 entries for the Betway Top Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree on Friday. Douvan’s full-brother lost his unbeaten record but little else in finishing second to his spectacular Nicky Henderson-trained stablemate Constitution Hill in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham. Henderson is also represented by First Street. Willie Mullins has entered El Fabiolo, who will be having his second start for the Closutton handler after missing an intended engagement at the Dublin Racing Festival. Fred Winter winner Brazil, County Hurdle third Colonel Mustard and Imperial Cup hero Suprise Package are other possibles from Ireland.

2.50pm The Betway Mildmay Novices’ Steeple Chase (Grade 1)  3m 1f  SELECTION BRAVEMANSGAME
13 entered
L’Homme Presse and Ahoy Senor were first and second in the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase at the Festival and could renew rivalry – and clash with Bravemansgame – in this including Kim Muir victor Chambard.

3.25pm The Marsh Steeple Chase (Registered as the Melling) (Grade 1)  2m 4f
Fakir D’oudairies is one of 12 in the Marsh Chase. Better known as the Melling, the Grade One could also see Captain Guinness, Funambule Sivola and Editeur Du Gite run.

4.05pm The Randox Health Topham Steeple Chase (Grade 3)  2m 5f
Senior Citizen and Samcro are among the 45 left in the Randox Topham Handicap Chase.

4.40pm The Sefton Novices’ Hurdle (Class 1) Grade 1     3m
23 entered

5.15pm The Lydiate Handicap Hurdle (cond’ and amat’) (Class 2) 2m 1f
40 entered

Saturday April 9th

1.45pm: The EFT Construction Handicap Hurdle (Class 1) Grade 3  3m
13 entered at the 5 day stage.

2.25pm:  The Betway Mersey Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1)   2m 4f  SELECTION   ELLE EST BELLE
Stage Star
could bid to bounce back from a disappointing run on soft ground at the Festival. Nicky Henderson has given Supreme runner-up Jonbon the option of stepping up to two and a half miles for the first time, having also entered him for the two-mile Top Novices’ Hurdle on Thursday. Walking On Air is another possible for Henderson. Ballymore runner-up Three Stripe Life, King’s North Lodge, Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Hurdle winner Banbridge and Skelton’s pair of Elle Est BellE and Lac De Constance also feature

3pm: The Maghull Novices’ Steeple Chase (Class 1) Grade 1  2m  SELECTION EDWARDSTONE
Alan King’s Edwardstone will bid to supplement his Arkle success in the Poundland Maghull Novices’ Chase. The eight-year-old has won his last five races over fences and will be widely expected to crown his tremendous season with another top-level success. His biggest threat on ratings is Dan Skelton’s Third Time Lucki, who has already been beaten by Edwardstone twice this term, but will at least be fresh having sidestepped Cheltenham. Gentleman De Mee is an interesting contender from Ireland for Willie Mullins.

3.35pm: The Liverpool Hurdle (Class 1) Grade 1   3m  SELECTION  CHAMP
Dual Stayers’ Hurdle hero Flooring Porter is among 10 entries for the JRL Group Liverpool Hurdle at Aintree on Saturday. Gavin Cromwell’s charge produced another dominant front-running performance to successfully defend his crown at last month’s Cheltenham Festival under an inspired ride from Danny Mullins. Last season the seven-year-old rounded off his season at Punchestown, but Cromwell recently raised the possibility of him instead lining up on Merseyside before a potential trip to France later in the year.

4.15pm: The Betway Handicap Steeple Chase (Listed) 3m 1f
31 entered at the 5 day stage.

5.15pm: The Randox Health Grand National Steeple Chase (Grade 3) 4m 2f  SELECTION  RUN WILD FRED

Last year’s winner Minella Times has been left at the top of the weights in Saturday’s Randox Grand National following the defection of his stablemate Chris’s Dream. Minella Times claimed a historic victory 12 months ago as Rachael Blackmore became the first female rider to win the world’s most famous steeplechase. But Henry de Bromhead’s nine-year-old will have to carry 11st 10lb this time around as he bids to follow in the hoofprints of Tiger Roll by successfully defending his crown.

All 78 remaining entries for the Grand National at Aintree on 9 April - a maximum of the 40 top-rated horses will line up on the day. The following 14 horses were scratched at the latest entry stage - Back On The Lash, Braeside, Chantry House, Cloudy Glen, Conflated, Franco de Port, Galvin, Itchy Feet, Jett, Kapcorse, Melon, Milan Native, Ontheropes, Windsor Avenue

His Down royal debut was a good solid run he needed that behind Frodon and i feel he can reverse that form.  Minella Indo is not your typical King George runner (speed horse flat track) however he has a touch of class and considering he had to chase Frodon in a small field at Down Royal he can now sit off them and be produced. He will strip a lot fitter and i expect him to take this for the Irish. More rain the better. 6/1 Betfair 5/1 Skybet

Watch the way Minella Indo came up to Froden two out then faded through fitness. Remember Froden was fully tuned up for this and Minella can reverse this form.

30/11/21 Waiting Patiently was removed from the latest stage  having been pulled up on his first start for Christian Williams in the Betfair Chase at Haydock. Clondaw Castle, Espoir De Romay, The Big Breakaway, Cloth Cap and Kitty's Light were also scratched. 25 horses left in contention.
Shortlist at this stage if they run :....  ENVOI ALLEN ........ MINELLA INDO

21/11/21 The King George is starting to take shape now.  The Nicholls pair Clan des Obeaux and Frodon both have to be taken seriously, been there got the t shirt.  If Envoi Allen turns up he would have every chance unexposed at the top level,  improver and would love Kemptons sharp fast track.  Chantry House is third favourite in the betting but i still cannot get out my head when Espoir de romay was galloping all over him when they met last season (watch video below) the latter disappointed on debut but did he just need the run. He has drifted to 40 on Betfair now but if he lines up I will have to have a small interest. Gold Cup winner Minella Indo needed his debut run behind a fit Frodon and i feel he can reverse that form if he lines up on the day. I cant see speed horse  Allaho staying 3 miles at this stage. Lostintranslation capable but had his day.

Shortlist at this stage if they run :....  ENVOI ALLEN ........ MINELLA INDO ..... ESPOIR DE ROMAY

20/11/21  Lostintranslation won the Chanelle Pharma 1965 Chase at Ascot. A battling performance and good to see him regain some form. Brendon Powell said he was clever when he needed to be and he was good and brave at the last.

16/11/21 Gold Cup hero Minella Indo will be aimed at the King George VI Chase at Kempton this Christmas. Bromhead said  Minella Indo is highly likely to go for the King George. I know he's maybe not your typical King George horse, but we'll certainly weigh it up closer to the time.

14/11/21  Paddy Power Gold Cup winner Midnight Shadow is being aimed at the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase at Kempton on December 26 after he held the fast-finishing Protektorat to land the £160,000 event. Midnight Shadow was cut to 40-1 (from 100) with bet365 for the King George. He would be Smith's first runner in the race and she feels he is certainly up to the task with the promise of improvement moving up to three miles.

07/11/21 Chantry House landed the Future Stars Intermediate Chase by 37 lengths from The Big Breakaway. The seven-year-old faced only one rival as he took his first steps outside of novice company but he picked up where he left off having won two Grade 1s last season, including at the Cheltenham Festival.  Trainer Nicky Henderson suggested Chantry House could next go for the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day

01/11/21  Gold Cup winner Minella Indo could be King George or Savills Chase bound. Surely if he takes on the King George at Kempton the sharp easy 3 miles will all happen a bit to quickly for him. The Savills Chase at Leopardstown looks the better option.

31/10/21 Latest Odds

31/10/21  Fiddlerontheroof showed plenty of heart to make a winning reappearance in the Listed Colin Parker Memorial Intermediate Chase at Carlisle. Espoir De Romay was lack lustre after holding every chance weakened and faded into 3rd

30/10/21  Frodon gave Paul Nicholls a 5th win in the Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal in a great renewal of the Grade One contest. Bryony Frost set out to make all but jumping the second last both Galvin and Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Minella Indo were alongside. It seemed as though Galvin had his measure but Frodon dug deep as he always does to  overcome a mistake at the last, and battled on to beat Galvin by three-quarters-of-a-length. He is 5/1 from 12/1 with Betfair and Paddy Power to successfully defend his crown in the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day. Sky Bet are 6/1 from the same price.

13/10/21  Kim Bailey stable tour  Having claimed the Colin Parker at Carlisle 12 months ago with Imperial Aura, Bailey hopes he can repeat the feat with Espoir De Romay, The lightly raced seven year old was last sighted departing at the second last when pushing Chantry House close in the Grade One Betway Mildmay Novices’ Chase at Aintree.  He said: “Was it a tired fall and was he getting to the end of his tether at Aintree when he fell? I don’t know. The handicapper doesn’t think so.

“He goes to the Colin Parker at Carlisle. We stopped with him after Aintree but he is in good form. We schooled him this week and he jumped very well.

“He seems a stronger horse. He is nearly 17 hands so he is not a small horse and he is a horse that I hope will get better as he gets older. We would like to think he would be a King George horse if everything went to plan.”

17/09/21 Latest King George odds

02/09/21 The King George VI Chase is one of the most important staying chases of the season. A Grade One race run over a trip of three miles. The King George is the highlight of Christmas for many racing fans. The great Kauto Star holds the record number of wins in the race with five to his name.
Trainer Paul Nicholls was always meant to win last year's King George. He saddled the two market leaders, two-time winner Clan Des Obeaux and Cyrname, the highest-rated chaser in training. But we all never expected his third string Frodon to win the race from the front. Cyrname was very poor and never looked to be travelling. Nicholls' record in the King George is staggering. This was his 12th win in the last 23 runnings – with just five horses.

Willie Mullins has not won the race since 2001, but bookmakers are erring on the side of the caution with Allaho who battered the field at Prestbury Park and is likely to stay the trip at this track. Gold Cup hero  Minella Indo shares a general 10-1 price with Nicky Henderson’s Chantry House.

One horse I am excited to follow this jump season is Kim Bailey’s 7 year old Espor de Romay. He has only had four runs over fences and fell 2 out last time in the mildmay at Aintree when leading chantry House. He is a big galloping type who jumps well and has any amount of untapped potential. He looks capable of winning a grade one and who’s to say that will not be the King George on boxing day currently around the 16/1 mark.

If he lines up on the day Espor de Romay will be my selection.

Watch Espor de Romay cantering all over Chantry House before crashing out.
